New Zealand defeated India in the maiden World Test Championship final by 8 wickets. Now, the second edition of the WTC is all set to begin with, the enthralling series between England and India on August 4. Meanwhile, International Cricket Council has made some big changes in the points system that will be followed in the upcoming second edition of the World Test Championship.

In the maiden edition, every team used to get a total of 120 points for a series. The points were allocated based on the series. But, in the second edition, the points will be divided over the games and each game will be 12 points.

The ICC chief executive officer Geoff Allardice gave this important update during a chat with ESPNcricinfo over the introduction of new points system in the World Test Championship that will be used in the upcoming edition.

The second edition of the World Test Championship will witness the participation of 9 teams that will be played between 2021 and 2023. All the participating nations will play three home and three away series during these two years that will be part of the World Test Championship.

  • Points given for a win: 12
  • Points given for a draw: 4
  • Points given for a tie: 6
  • Besides, Teams will face penalties for slow over rates- one point deducted for every over they fall behind.

The 2nd edition of WTC will saw its commencement from August 4 with the five-match Test series between England and India. The series opener will be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham followed by the next games in London, Leeds, and Manchester.
