IND vs BAN 1st Test: India Defeats Bangladesh, Climbs To Third Spot On The WTC Ranking

Date:

India defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs on Day 5 of their first Test match on Sunday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, defending a target of 513. On Day 5, the visitors bowled the hosts out for 324 in the opening session. On Day 4, Zakir Hasan scored his first century, setting up a thrilling final day of play. With 224 balls, Zakir scored 100 runs, including 13 fours and a six.

On Sunday, India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan started their batting on Day 5, although the latter lost his wicket rather early. Shakib put up a solo performance, scoring 84 runs off 108 balls, including six sixes and six fours, for a half-century. But after he was out, Bangladesh quickly lost the rest of their wickets. After starting the day on 272 for 6, Bangladesh gained 52 runs in 11.2 overs and lost four wickets in the process as they chased an implausible 513 runs for victory.

After Axar Patel picked up three wickets before the end of the fourth day to move the visitors closer to victory, it was only a matter of finishing the formalities for India. With eight wickets, including a fifer in the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav stood out, and Cheteshwar Pujara shone with scores of 90 and 102 not out. On December 22, the second and final Test begins in Mirpur.

Pitch was quicker than the second innings: Kuldeep Yadav

“To be very honest I am happy with the performance, both with bat and ball. First innings the pitch was quicker than the second innings. There was some pace in the first innings, but the second innings was very challenging. It was slower. so I was trying to work on my rhythm and bowl quicker. Probably more revs on the ball makes it challenging for the batters and it is difficult to step down and drive as well (why wrist spinners have that extra edge). I just worked on my rhythm, tried to be more aggressive and it’s helped me a lot. The action is the same, just trying to be aggressive in the rhythm,” said Kuldeep Yadav, while receiving Man Of The Match award for his excellent 40 runs and 8 wickets in the match.
