IPL 2023: BCCI Likely To Hold Live Video Conferencing During Auction For Foreign Staff

Date:

The BCCI is considering whether to permit video conferencing at the auction after turning down franchisees’ requests to postpone IPL 2023 auction day. The Christmas break and the lack of international employees are to blame.

The majority of franchises won’t have their international coaching staff because they’ll be on vacation. A final decision will be made at the franchises’ meeting closer to the auction day. On December 23, the IPL Mini-Auction will take place in Kochi.

“We know, it’s going to be a little difficult for all. That is why December 16 day was first proposed. But we have agreed to December 23 due to some unforeseen circumstances. It will be a little tough on the foreign staff. But even we have international games before or after Diwali. So, everyone will have to manage,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Video-conferencing isn’t a big deal

Video conferencing is no longer a huge concern because the Covid-19 pandemic has helped to overhaul digital infrastructure at every step. While phone calls are permitted during the auction, it has not yet been decided if a specialized video-conferencing service will be available.

“As for video conferencing, we will take a call on that in the franchise meeting before the auction. If all the stakeholders agree, I don’t see any reason not to allow it,” the official said.
