Before the auction, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore had suffered a setback. Star spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana will miss the first few games of the season, the BCCI has informed franchises of their overseas availability.
Now that the BCCI has confirmed that Sri Lankan players won’t be available for the first week of play, both teams are in a trouble. Due to international commitments, the two spinners won’t be accessible until after April 8. Thus, early in the season, Theekshana and Hasaranga may both miss a few games.
“Players selected for Ireland series will be available from 8 April to 1 May,” the mail says. Both CSK and RCB are likely to find better backup players for these two big spinners during the IPL 2023 auction, which is all set for December 23, at Kochi.
