IPL 2023 60-Day

The BCCI is likely to reject the idea of a lengthy 74-day Indian Premier League despite having promised it. The IPL 2023 season will last 60 days. Although BCCI hasn’t officially released the dates, the tournament will begin on April 1 and end on May 31.

The World Championships Final (WTC Final) is the reason for not conducting the longer window IPL. No tournaments are permitted to be hosted seven days prior to an ICC event, per ICC rules. In such a case, the IPL 2023 final must occur on or before May 30.

The WTC Final is scheduled to take place from June 7 to June 11 at the Oval, according to media reports, even though the ICC has not yet officially declared the dates. The Women’s IPL is scheduled to start in March, giving BCCI just 60 days to wrap off the 16th IPL season.

“If you look at the entire window, it is longer. We have WIPL and IPL for close to 3 months. But yes, IPL itself is difficult to be longer at this point. But the dates are not final. So, we are still trying to figure out the duration, start and end date suitable not just for players but also for the broadcasters,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Board will now have just two months

The IPL board will now have just under two months to wrap the IPL 2023, despite BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s earlier assertion that the IPL would receive an official window of 2.5 months starting with IPL 2023. The tournament’s progression will depend more and more on the players’ availability because the dates are alarmingly near to the WTC Final.

“We have been talking with our fellow Member Boards and the ICC about having a bigger dedicated window for the IPL. Let me assure you that there will be a two-and-a-half-month window in the next ICC FTP calendar so that all top international players can participate. Since this tournament benefits all we have received a positive response from the ICC and other member boards,” Jay Shah said.
