Shane Watson, the former Aussie cricketer has played under the likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League. Recently, the star player outlined the difference between the two best leaders of Indian cricket.
Shane Watson has agreed on a deal with Delhi Capitals for IPL. He is going to be appointed as Delhi Capitals assistant coach for the upcoming 15th edition of the Indian Premier League. The former World Cup-winning all-rounder last featured for CSK in IPL. Now, he will mark his return to the cash-rich league with the reputation of DC’s coach.
Shane Watson marks difference between captaincy of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli
In an interview, Watson was quizzed on what is the difference between the captaincy of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. To which, former Aussie cricketer replied that Virat and Dhoni are poles apart from each other when it comes down to their leadership qualities.
As per him, Virat Kohli is superhuman, who knows how to get the best out of a player. Watson added that he always felt great playing under Virat Kohli.
“Virat as a leader has done incredible things, the way he has been able to push players, he has got such high expectations of himself and he brings that to every game he plays. For me, I believe Virat is superhuman, he knows how to push players around him. Virat is an incredibly good guy, he is a well-balanced character off the field, the knowledge he has is fascinating. It was a great experience for me to work with Virat at RCB,” Watson said on the ‘ICC Review’.
Watson mentioned that MS Dhoni is a very calm personality. He feels that the former Indian World Cup-winning skipper never loses his calm. The former Aussie player mentioned that Dhoni acks his instincts which helps him in getting things done on the field.
“MS Dhoni has got ice running through his veins, his ability to take the pressure out of a team environment, he trusts his players, he makes sure everyone has faith in their abilities. Dhoni knows what works for himself and the people around him. He trusts his instincts on the field, he trusts that players will do their research and do what is needed on the field,” he added.
“He is such a natural and easy leader. I watched him closely leading the Mumbai Indians and nothing seemed to faze him. He goes about his work incredibly well, he has had experience leading teams as well, captaining a franchise like Mumbai in high-pressure situations. There is always a high expectation from Mumbai in the IPL,” Watson further said.
“I love watching Rohit bat, he is an elegant batter and he brings that to his captaincy,” he added.
