Promising Mumbai cricketer Musheer Khan has suffered a serious neck fracture following a road accident on the outskirts of Lucknow while traveling to participate in the Irani Cup.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2024, as Musheer was en route from his hometown of Azamgarh with his father and coach, Naushad Khan.

Their vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, reportedly collided with a median and overturned on the Purvanchal Expressway, resulting in Musheer sustaining the fracture while his father escaped with minor injuries.

Musheer Khan’s Current Condition

Musheer Khan is currently hospitalized at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow, where he is reported to be stable, conscious, and under close medical observation.

Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Director of Orthopedics at the hospital, confirmed that Musheer’s condition is stable and that he is “out of danger.” However, he will require further evaluation and treatment once deemed fit for travel back to Mumbai.

Impact on Upcoming Matches

The injury is a significant setback for the 19-year-old cricketer, who was expected to play a crucial role in Mumbai’s upcoming matches.

Musheer is set to miss the Irani Cup, which begins on October 1, as well as the initial rounds of the Ranji Trophy, starting on October 11.

This absence follows a strong start to his domestic season, where he scored a century for India B in the Duleep Trophy and made notable contributions during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy triumph earlier this year.

Musheer Khan’s Future Prospects

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has stated that they are closely monitoring Musheer’s recovery process.

Once he is medically cleared for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further assessment and treatment.

The timeline for his recovery remains uncertain but is expected to last at least three months.

In light of Musheer’s injury, there are discussions about potential replacements for the Irani Cup match. While no official replacement has been announced yet, it is anticipated that young opener Ayush Mhatre may debut in Musheer’s place.
