Shikhar Dhawan is one of the top players in the Indian Premier League and his name set up an enthralling bidding war between the franchises when his name popped out of the bucket at the IPL 2022 mega-auction.
The star Indian opener is one of the most experienced batsmen in the history of the Indian Premier League, who has scored more than 5500 runs in the league with the help of two centuries and 44 fifties. He has played for different franchises in the past like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals.
Punjab Kings buys star Indian player at INR 8.25 Crores
Last year, the southpaw played for Delhi Capitals but he was not retained by the franchise ahead of the mega-auction. Although Delhi Capitals tried their level best to rope Shikhar Dhawan. But, Punjab Kings spoiled their party.
Rajasthan Royals made the first bid for the Indian opener followed by Delhi Capitals. Later on, Punjab Kings joined the bidding war. All the three teams fought for the signature of Shikhar Dhawan. But, Punjab Kings finished as the winner as they secured the services of Shikhar Dhawan at INR 8.25 crores.
Earlier in 2018, Punjab Kings had shown their interest in Shikhar Dhawan and they had almost bought a star player for IPL 2018 season. But, Sunrisers Hyderabad used their right to match bid in order to retain the southpaw. However, now finally after three seasons Shikhar Dhawan will be spotted donning the red-glittery jersey of Kings
IPL 2022 mega-auction got underway in Bengaluru at 12:00 pm in the presence of all the 10 franchises of the cash-rich league and Shikhar Dhawan’s name was the first name to come out of the bucket on Day-1 of the IPL 2022 auction.
