The Indian team selection panel is all set o announce the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup that will begin from 17th October in UAE. One of the selectors has revealed that the important announcement will be done in the next 24 hours.
The mega-event was earlier set to be played in India. But, due to the COVID-19 emergency BCCI was forced to change the country for the marquee event. Now, T20 World Cup will be played just after IPL 2021 Phase-2 in UAE. Recently Australia had announced their 15-member squad and now it is much anticipated that other countries will also announce the squad for the mega-event in the upcoming days.
Indian selectors have made up their mind for the T20 World Cup squad
It is said that ICC will only reimburse the expense of 15-member in each country. But, countries are expected to pick more players in order to avoid any end-time injury voes, etc inside the Bio-Bubble.
In an interview, a close source to BCCI said that the board is most likely to announce the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 based on when the fourth Test match will be finished. As per him, the squad for the T20 World Cup is already selected by Chetan Sharma’s led selection panel.
“It will depend on the Test match. If the match is over early, the announcement could be made tomorrow. But if not, we will wait for Tuesday, we can confirm that 15 member squad has already been selected” a BCCI source told InsideSport.
The source also asserted that the selectors have already discussed everything related to the upcoming T20 World Cup including which players will be part of the squad.
“We already have a set squad and the discussion was only about a few places. The team management has already discussed those with the selectors. We just need to have a final announcement.” the source said.
The source also hinted out that BCCI might pick more players that will stay along with the squad keeping the current COVID-19 conditions in mind.
“You can see in the UK, the 25-member squad doesn’t seem to be enough or in Sri Lanka, we had to bring in net bowlers for the T20 series. So, there will be more than 15 players. And it should not be a problem because all the players will be moving from the IPL bubble to the T20 World Cup bubble,” the source added.
