Ajinkya Rahane is going through a poor patch in cricket with the bat. This is one big reason why he has been dropped from the national side and he will go back to Ranji Trophy in order to regain his position back in Team India. Meanwhile, the middle-order batsman is on a spree of giving controversial statements in his interview.
Ajinkya Rahane was going through a rough patch from pst 12 months. Although, selectors provided him with several chances. But, still, he failed to give his best with the bat. In the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, he managed 68 runs in two games with the help of one half-century.
Ajinkya Rahane claims he never got chance to prove himself in white-ball cricket
Ajinkya Rahane was playing for India only in red-ball cricket. He was earlier dropped from the limited-overs format after the rise of players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul. However, the star player has opened claiming that he never got enough game time to prove his worth with the bat in white-ball cricket, although he was performing well for Team India.
In a recent interview, Ajinkya Rahane said that when any player features only in one format for a long time then everyone should consider the same. As per him, it is impossible for any player to produce performance playing with a big-time gap.
“Sometimes, the reality is, when you play only one format and especially in the last 2-3 years where there is no Ranji cricket and no other domestic games, I think that needs to be taken into account because you can’t score runs sitting at home,” Rahane said on Backstage with Boria.
Rahane mentioned that doing practice in the nets is a different thing and performing in the games is a different ball game altogether.
“No matter how much you practice or have ner sessions, the confidence will not be gained with that. Confidence comes with game time and scoring runs in matches,” Rahane continued.
The middle-order batsman mentioned that back in 2014 he was doing an impressive job with the bat in white-ball and red-ball cricket. But after 2017, he never got enough game time to prove his worth.
“Before that, I was playing ODI cricket continuously for Team India and I was doing really well. Suddenly, I got dropped, I don’t want to go into that, I don’t want to go into my past but the reality is I was playing well in 2014, 15, 16, and 17. ODI and Test cricket both were going really well. After that I hardly got game time, there was a huge gap between Test matches,” said Rahane.
