On August 27, the United Arab Emirates will host the opening match of the 2022 Asia Cup T20 event, featuring five-time champions Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan in Dubai.

The Men in Blue of India, who are in Group A, will begin their campaign on Sunday, August 28 at Dubai International Stadium against bitter rival Pakistan.

Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain has been the topic of much discussion before the India-Pakistan game in Dubai. The 33-year-old right-handed batter is having a difficult time right now, but he hopes to turn things around soon.

Sourav Ganguly backed former Indian captain

After an absence of six weeks, he is returning to the field. Sourav Ganguly, the current BCCI president, and a former Indian captain has backed him to rediscover his scoring touch and added that the batting mastermind needs to score runs not just for India but “for himself” as well.

“He needs to score runs not only for India but for himself. Hopefully, it will be a good season for him. We are all confident that he’ll come back,” Ganguly said during an interaction with PTI.

In the 2019 Eden Gardens pink ball Test against Bangladesh, Kohli scored his last international century.

“I’m sure like all of us are waiting for him to get that hundred, he’s working for it as well. The chances of getting a hundred in a T20 are less because of the time. But hopefully, this will be a big season for Kohli,” the 50-year-old cricketer-turned-administrator said.

“He’s a very big player, been there for a long time. I know he has his own formula for scoring runs. It’s not possible that a player of his stature can’t have such a long lean patch. I know he will definitely score runs. If he was not a great player, he would not have scored so many runs for so long,” Ganguly added.

Kohli vs Pakistan

Virat Kohli has a terrific record against Pakistan in T20Is. He has played seven matches against them in the shortest format so far and has scored 311 runs at an average of 77.75 with the help of three fifties.
