Ravi Ashwin is reckoned as one of the best off-spinners in international cricket. He has done a great job overseas as well as in the home conditions. Many former cricketing greats have praised his sharp skills. Now, Aussie batsman Marnus Labuschagne has also joined the bandwagon and said that every batter needs to up their game while facing an Indian spin wizard.

Ravi Ashwin is known for putting innovation while bowling in the games. He tries to apply different tricks through his bowling arm. Currently, he is a regular face in red-ball cricket and he has grabbed 430 wickets.

Aussie cricketer lavishes praise on Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin

He did an amazing job on his tour to Australia during the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2021-22 and took 12 wickets in 3 games. Post historic tour to Australia, many former players praised Ashwin’s presence in Team India’s line-up and they expect him to break more records in international cricket.

Marnus Labuschagne, who did face Ashwin in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, said that the Indian off-spinner is a brilliant reader of the game. As per him, every batsman is needed to level up his game when playing against Ashwin.

“The reason Ashwin’s record is so good is that he’s a tremendous thinker of the game. So, he’s always thinking about how he can get you out. About what you are doing. And so what he’s doing to counter that?”

He added that Ashwin is an individual, who likes to take responsibility in his hands to change the game and this makes him a very important part of Team India in red-ball cricket.

“And then he seems to go, “Ok now I’m going to change, so that you’re going to do this.” That’s what makes him really good. Now, not all bowlers are like that. There are other bowlers who have really good deliveries and can bowl really well but that thinking of getting you out, that’s an acquired skill.”

“On some wickets, it’s easy. Because you just need to put the ball there and the wicket will do the work. But I think Ashwin has played on plenty of wickets where he’s had to create the work, he’s had to create the angles, come tight or come wide.”

“And that’s why it’s really good to play against guys like Ashwin. You obviously have to lift your game because he’s lifted his game”, he further added.
