Manu Bhaker Bronze Olympics 2024

Manu Bhaker has made history by winning India’s first medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clinching a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

This achievement not only marks a significant milestone for Bhaker but also ends a 12-year wait for an Olympic shooting medal for India, making her the first Indian woman shooter to stand on the Olympic podium.

A Historic Performance at Olympics 2024

Competing on July 28, 2024, Bhaker’s journey to the medal was marked by resilience and determination.

After finishing third in the qualification round with a score of 580, she advanced to the finals, where she showcased her exceptional skills.

In the final, Bhaker scored 221.7 points, just 0.1 points behind South Korea’s Kim Yeji, who took the silver medal. The gold went to her compatriot, Oh Ye Jin, who set a new Olympic record with a score of 243.2.

This bronze medal is particularly significant as it makes Bhaker the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting, joining an elite group of male shooters who have previously medaled for India.

The last time India won a medal in shooting was during the London 2012 Olympics, where Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar brought home bronze and silver, respectively.

Manu Bhaker Overcoming Challenges

Manu Bhaker’s path to this achievement has not been without its challenges. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a malfunction with her pistol derailed her chances, leading to a disappointing exit.

However, she demonstrated remarkable resilience by bouncing back and performing at the highest level in Paris.

Her qualification score included the highest number of perfect scores (27), underscoring her readiness for the competition.

The news of Bhaker’s historic win has been met with widespread celebration across India. Her family, friends, and fans have expressed immense pride in her achievement.
