The 2024 Summer Paralympics, also known as the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, will be the 17th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games. The games will take place in Paris, France from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

These games mark the first time Paris will host the Paralympics in its history and the second time that France will host the Paralympic Games, as Tignes and Albertville jointly hosted the 1992 Winter Paralympics. 

Approximately 4,400 athletes will compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games featuring 22 sports across 23 disciplines, including both track and road events in para-cycling.

The program will feature a total of 549 medal events spread over 269 sessions (morning, afternoon, and evening). This includes a record 235 women’s medal events, an increase of eight over 2020.

Paris Paralympics 2024: Opening Ceremony and Venues

The opening ceremony will take place at Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées on August 28, 2024. This will be the first Paralympic opening ceremony to be held outside of a stadium.

India’s Participation at Paris Paralympics 2024

India is set to make a remarkable presence at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, sending its largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes to compete in various sports. 

This significant increase from the 54 athletes who represented India at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics highlights the nation’s growing commitment to para-sports.

 At the Tokyo Games, Indian athletes achieved a historic milestone, securing 19 medals—including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes—demonstrating their potential for success on the international stage.

The 2024 Paralympics will take place from August 28 to September 8 in the French capital, and Indian para-athletes will compete across 12 sports.
