David Warner Cricket Career

David Warner played his First-Class game for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield 2008-2009 Final. He also featured in the Big Bash League (BBL) for Sydney Sixers in the 2012-2013 seasons.

ODI Cricket Career

David went on to play his first ODI match against South Africa in 2009. He scored his first century against Sri Lanka in the 1st Final match of the CB Series. In 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, he carried on with his superlative performance. He hammered Afghanistan by hitting 178 runs – making his highest ODI score. Warner’s knock helped Australia to score the highest total of a Team in any World Cup. 2016 was an amazing year for Warner as he went on to score more runs in ODIs than in Tests. Owing to his fine performance, he was included in the World ODI XI by ICC in 2016 and 2017. He also skippered Australia in the 2016 ODI Series Vs Sri Lanka. Test Cricket Career

The Test debut of David Warner was Vs New Zealand in 2011. He had his first Test ton just after 10 days of making the debut. Owing to his proficient performance in 2014, he was included in the World Test XI by ICC. In 2015 Ashes Series, he amassed 418 runs even when Australia lost the Series to England 2-3. He was once again named in the ICC World XI in 2015. He reached the feat of 5000 Test runs in 2016.

Test Cricket Career

On 24 March 2018, he was involved in an infamous ball-tampering controversy during the 3rd Test Match Vs South Africa, along with the Skipper Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. They admitted to ball-tampering, and revealed that the plan was made by the ‘top group’ in the Team. Following this, they had to step down and were suspended on 27 March 2018 and sent back home. David Warner received 1-year suspension for bringing the match into a dispute and not reporting it to the match officials and even misleading them. He was also awarded a punishment that he will not be considered for a Team leadership position in the future. He made a comeback in 2019 and played in the ICC Cricket World Cup and Ashes 2019.

T20 Career

David made his first International T20 appearance against New Zealand on 11 January 2009. He went on to make 89 on debut, which was the 2nd highest individual score on T20 debut. Shane Watson and David Warner have been the most successful opening combination in T20 history. Warner is the first Australian to accomplish the feat of reaching 1500 runs in T20. He had also led the Team against Sri Lanka in a T20 Series and won it by 2-0.

David Warner Controversies

The relationship of controversies and David Warner has been close. When he goes out in the middle, he talks with his bat and if not, then mouth. Being an aggressive batsman, his tongue is also belligerent.

During the 2013 Champions Trophy, he attacked England’s Joe Root while he was in the Walkabout bar. After this incident, he was removed from the remaining of the Champions Trophy and Cricket Australia even fined him.

During a Test Series against South Africa on 4 March 2018, David exchanged a few words with the Proteas’ Wicket Keeper Quinton de Kock. Warne again exchanged a few words while De Kock was going back to the dressing room. De Cock was fined 25% of his match fee while Warner had to let go of his 75% match fee.

In the 3rd Test Match Vs South Africa, Cameron Bancroft was seen on camera rubbing the ball with the sand paper object. Questions were raised in the Press Conference following the Day’s play. Skipper Steve Smith accepted using it to change the ball’s direction. It was revealed that it was Warner who gave the idea of ball tempering and Smith and Bancroft were convinced doing it.

Cricket Australia (CA) suspended Cameron Bancroft for 9 months, while Skipper Steve Smith and Vice Captain David Warner were handed a 1-year ban. The ban was effective for 1 year and barred them from any Cricketing activities.

Following this, even the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned Steve Smith and David Warner from appearing in the 2018 season of the IPL.
