Who is Mohammed Siraj?

Mohammed Siraj is the opening bowler who bowls medium pace in domestic and international matches, including the IPL. Therefore he is experienced in all white, Pink and Red ball  Cricket.

Mohammed Siraj was born in Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra State in India. He bowls right-handed and bats number 10 or 11.

Born in Hyderabad, he represented Hyderabad which was the State Team which included Under-16s,  Under-19s, and Under-22sCricket Team. He then made his debut for the State of Tamilnadu at the age of 23 in 2018.

Siraj made his first-class debut against the Services in a first-class match in November 2015. He took only one wicket for 108 from both innings combined, and the game was drawn anyway.

His List A debut was against Tamilnadu in December 2015, in which he took two wickets for 44 runs, but the effort went in vain.

He played his first domestic T20 in January 2016 against Bengal. He took one for 36, and Hyderabad lost this too.

His First international was against the Kiwis in 2017, and even though he took Williamson’s wicket, he was taken to the cleaners as India lost that match.

Siraj has only three wickets in T20 s as of date.

Mohammed Siraj Cricket Career

Domestic Career

Siraj joined the Charminar Cricket Club and scalped a fiver in a match, and this was noticed as he continued to perform for them. Soon enough, he was selected in the state’s Under-23 side.

He now played for the senior zonal side and persevered more.

Siraj debuted for Hyderabad on November 15, 2015, in the Ranji Trophy in a first-class match and played a solitary match.

Siraj performed well as Hyderabad got to the quarter-finals in the 2016 Ranji Championships Siraj ended up with a tally of 41 wickets in just nine matches and became number one wicket-taker for Hyderabad and third in the List of wicket-takers overall. His average of 18.92 was considered supreme.

He was selected in the Rest of India squad, and he performed well. This led to his selection in the India A team, which toured South Africans in 2017.

He was once again the highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy played in 2017-18, with 23 dismissals in only seven matches.

He was chosen to represent India A’s squad for the Deodar Trophy 2018–19 and be a part of India B’s squad in 2019-20.

Siraj has played in 36 domestic first-class matches and has 147 wickets averaging 23.00 per wicket. He has 81 wickets at 23.37 per wicket in 41 outings for  List A matches.

In the T20 domestic format, he has scalped 79 wickets at an averaging 22.54 wickets in 79 matches. His economy rate is 8.44.

He couldn’t pick any wicket in his first ODI against Australia in 2018, but India beat Australia by six wickets anyway.

T20I Career

Siraj was selected in India’s T20I eleven to play against Kiwis in 2017. His first T20Iwicket was the prized scalp of Kane Williamson. He figures in that match were one for 53 runs, which was very expensive. After that, he was given a chance to play in two more T20Is, in which he took two wickets more.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Indian Premier League franchise bid and purchased his services in the 2017 IPL auction for a grand Rs. 2.6 crore, which happened to be 13 times from his base price of 20 Lakhs.

He played only in six matches and had ten wickets averaging 21.2, and his best performance was 4/32.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased him at the 2018 IPL Auction for INR 2.20 cr. This time he played in 11 matches that season but took 11 wickets only. The 2019 season was yet again a failure, but he bowled very well in the last stretch of the 2020 IPL in the UAE, helping RCB qualify for the play-offs.
