His first international outing was at the World Youth Championships in Ukraine in 2013. After struggling for good training facilities for most of the early phase, he finally got a national call-up in 2015, which provided him with the needed facilities and drastically improved his game. In 2016, India first heard his name after he clinched the gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games.
After 2016, Neeraj conquered every event in which he participated. He won gold medals in the Asian Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games and set his sights on the ultimate goal of Olympic glory in Tokyo 2020.
