Pravin Tambe’s Cricket Career
Early career: Through his early career Pravin Tambe used to play in Mumbai’s lower leagues. He used to have a day job and kept cricket as his side hustle. Slowly progressing he made his way to the Shivaji Gymkhana team which is Mumbai’s top team. After this, he got noticed and was also in the Ranji probable for Mumbai between 2002 and 2006 but didn’t get selected.
Pravin Tambe did eventually get selected for Mumbai in the 2013/14 Ranji season. This was after his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals.
Indian Premier League: Rajasthan Royals picked up Pravin Tambe in 2013 after scouts saw potential in him. He made his IPL debut against Delhi Daredevils at the age of 41.
His best 12-months followed in the Champions League and the IPL 2014 tournaments where the bowler picked up 12 and 15 wickets for the Rajasthan Royals respectively.

“Retiring” to play in the T10 League: Pravin Tambe wanted to play in the T10 League in 2018. But BCCI’s rules suggested that he would have to retire to do so. Owing to this, Tambe announced his retirement and went on to play in the league.
After the league ended, Tambe announced that he is withdrawing his retirement. Owing to this, he gave his name in the IPL auctions and was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the same year.
However, the BCCI intervened and disqualified Pravin Tambe from the IPL. They instead asked KKR to select a replacement.
Asked to fix games in the IPL: In 2015, during the 8th edition of the Indian Premier League, Pravin Tambe was reportedly approached for match-fixing by a Mumbai-based cricket.
The then Rajasthan Royals spinner declined the offer and reported the same to the BCCI.
