Shane Watson’s Cricket Career

Australia: Shane Watson made his ODI debut in the South Africa tour as a replacement for Steve Waugh. He would start well but would miss the ICC World Cup in 2003 due to an injury. Following this, he made a return in 2004 and became a regular.

In 2004, Shane Watson also made his debut for the Australian test side against Pakistan in Sydney. His consistent performances helped him to win a place in the ICC XI in 2005.

In 2006, Watson was selected for the Champions Trophy. He would play as an opener for the side as they went on to win the title. He would carry this form helping Australia to retain the World Cup title in 2007.

He would continue his good form but could help Australia add any other ICC titles to this name until 2015. In the meantime, the opener stepped up and made 59 appearances in the Australian Test Squad as well.

The 2015 World Cup was huge for Australia as they were the hosts along with New Zealand. Watson played all but one game as he helped Australia win the World Cup title.

He would retire from ODIs in 2016 and then from T20Is a few years later.

Indian Premier League: Shane Watson started his IPL journey with the Rajasthan Royals in spectacular fashion as he helped the side be crowned the Champions in 2008. He stayed with the Royals until 2017 before they were banned in a betting scandal.

Watson would join Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 but he had an unmemorable spell with the side. The highlight of his RCB career was him helping the team to a 2nd placed finish in 2016.
