VVS Laxman was given the nickname of Very Very Special Laxman for his flamboyant wrist work during his batting and throughout his career, he terrorized every single opponent. Laxman was born on 1 November 1974 and hails from the Brahman Hyderabadi family. Interestingly Laxman was a good student as well but like most cricketers from his generation, the 1983 World Cup Win changed everything.
Laxman’s parents were renowned Doctors and Laxman himself initially was on road to pursue his career in the medical field but his love for cricket took over his parents’ dreams. He made his under-19 debut in 1994 and at that time he was more of a lower-order batsman. His prolific run in domestic cricket earned him a spot for the Indian National team in 1996 where he scored fifty in 2nd innings of his debut match.
In this article, we will take you through the cricketing journey of this very special man and his life off-field. Laxman has also enjoyed great success after his retirement as a commentator, Mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad and now will be seen in a new role of nurturing new talents of India as he is head of National Cricket Academy and Indian-A coach.
VVS Laxman Net Worth
VVS Laxman is one of the most respected cricketers of this generation and earned most of his income through cricket only. Although he was also the poster boy of MNC brands like Pepsi at one point in his career. VVS Laxman’s Career
Laxman made his debut in 1996 against South Africa and had a decent first outing but failed miserably after the debut test match. Eventually, he was dropped which nearly destroyed Laxman’s confidence. He himself considers that phase as the biggest low of his whole career. He made a return to domestic cricket and smashed every record of the Ranji Trophy including the most runs in a single season.
After being in and out of the Indian team till 2000, his record-breaking season of 1999 brought him back to contention in the Indian batting lineup. He grabbed chances with both hands and his innings at Kolkata in 2001 is arguably the greatest Test innings of all time. Laxman never looked back from initial failures and now is considered as one of the greatest Indian batsmen of all time.
Although Laxman didn’t taste success in a white-ball format which he considers as the only setback in his illustrious career. Laxman retired in 2012 but has been involved in cricket administration since then. Sometimes as a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee and currently as head of the National Cricket Academy.
