New Zealand

New Zealand will lock horns with South Africa in the first of the two-Test match series. Hagley Oval in Christchurch will host this fixture on Thursday, February 17. New Zealand managed to draw their previous Test series 1-1 against Bangladesh after losing the opening Test. They are the champions of the inaugural World Test Championship, however, Kane Williamson will miss the series as he is still recovering from the elbow injury. Ross Taylor will also be missed after his retirement.

The Blackcaps will need to be much-improved in this series against an impressive South Africa outfit, especially as they have won just four of 45 Tests against their opponents, and in their attempts to improve on that record, they will be without Trent Boult who is on paternity leave. Tom Latham will be the newly appointed skipper for New Zealand.

South Africa

South Africa have recently beaten a top Indian side at their home ground by a margin of 2-1. Plenty of heroes emerged out of their campaign against India including the likes of Keegan Petersen and Marco Jansen.

Out of the last 5 Test matches played, South Africa have lost only one and are currently in great form. Captain Dean Elgar also seems to have hit the purple patch with the bat and it’s a great sign for the Proteas.

Keegan Petersen will be unavailable for the first test against New Zealand and is likely to be replaced by Sarel Erwee in the squad. Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the pace attack and Keshav Maharaj will be leading the spin attack. South Africa’s record against Kiwis in the past is phenomenal and they would like to exert dominance in the upcoming Test series.

NZ vs SA, Who will win the match, Today Match Prediction

South Africa is expected to win against New Zealand.

South Africa’s record against Kiwis in the past is phenomenal and they would like to exert dominance in the upcoming Test series. Though they are not likely favorites to win this contest, we would still root for their well-balanced squad.

On the other hand, the recent form of the World Test champions has not been too great. They have won only 2 out of the last 5 completed Test matches. The blackcaps will be playing without their regular captain Kane Williamson. They also have a strong unit with a good balance. Matt Henry has been included in place of Trent Boult and the conditions at Hagley Oval may suit his bowling.

Top Batsman for New Zealand- Tom Latham

Latham is a fantastic opening batsman and a responsible player for his team which can keep him confident making him our prime choice for this crucial encounter. So far he has amassed 674 runs in 10 Matches. His performance was exceptional against India in the first Test. Even though he failed to score big in the Ford Trophy he will play a key role here.

Top Batsman for South Africa- Temba Bavuma

Temba Bavuma is also in good form recently. He played good Test cricket against India and then went to lead the South African to victory in the ODI series. He has gathered 2318 runs in 42 Test matches. All this should allow him to maintain his contributions as an important opening batsman in this contest.

Top Bowler for New Zealand- Kyle Jamieson

Kyle Jamieson has picked 60 wickets in his last 12 Test matches with greater potential to provide decent batting contributions that can play a vital role in this match making him a potential game-changer. His performance against Bangladesh was on top as he bagged 8 scalps in two tests.

Top Bowler for South Africa- Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi was brilliant in his series against India which highlights his current form that earned him 15 wickets in his last 3 test matches which can be channeled into improved performance in this encounter. So far he has amassed 47 wickets in 13 matches including the best figure of 6/39.
