India’s legend Virat Kohli has the most centuries in ODI cricket history, with 50 centuries. He achieved the ODI World Cup record and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries. Kohli became the first batsman to score 50 centuries in ODI. He scored his 50th century in the semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai.
Regarding international cricket, Tendulkar is still at the top with 100 centuries across formats, but Kohli is not that far behind. He has scored 80 centuries in formats till now.

Virat Kohli – 50 Centuries
Virat Kohli has recently broken the record of his idol Sachin Tendulkar on the list of most hundreds in ODI cricket. The former Indian captain made his ODI debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka and has played 295 matches to date, scoring 13,906 runs at an average speed of 58.18. Kohli also tops the chart of hundreds in winning because out of 50 of his centuries, 42 took India over the line.
Best Centuries: 183 against Pakistan in Dhaka at the Asian Cup 2012, 118 against Australia in Visakhapatnam in 2010, 123 against New Zealand in Napier in 2014, and 133 against Sri Lanka in Hobert in 2012.
Sachin Tendulkar – 49 Centuries
In a career spanning over 23 years, the master blaster scored 49 ODI tons. Sachin Tendulkar made his ODI debut in 1989 against Pakistan and played the last game in the format against the same team in 2012. The God of Cricket ended his career with an average run rate 44.83. He might be the second one to top the list of most centuries, but he heads the list in Test cricket.
Best Centuries: 200 against South Africa in Gwalior in 2010, 175 against Australia in Hyderabad in 2009, 140 against Kenya in Bristol in 1999 and 143 against Australia in Sharjah in 1998. The knock in Sharjah, called the ‘desert storm’, remains one of Sachin’s personal favourite ODI centuries.
Rohit Sharma – 32 Centuries
Popularly known as the ‘Hitman’, Rohit Sharma comes third in the list of most centuries in ODI. Sharma tops the list with 32 centuries with 264 runs. He has also hit 33 fours in single innings. Besides, Sharma is the only batsman with three double centuries in this format and is also the only batsman in the world to score five centuries in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.
Best Centuries: 208 Vs Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2017, 209 Vs Australia in Bangalore in 2013, 264 Vs Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014, 171 against Australia in Perth in 2016.
Ricky Pointing – 30 Centuries
On number four, we have the former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Ponting, who last played his match for Australia in 2012, scored 30 centuries in the 50-over format, 25 of them are in the winning clause. His first century was against Sri Lanka in the Benson & Hedges World Series, which was held in Melbourne in 1996. His highest score in ODI is 164, which he scored against South Africa at the Wanderer’s Stadium in 2006.
Best Centuries: 145 against Zimbabwe in New Delhi in 1998, 129 against South Africa in Bloemfontein in 2002, 140 against India in Johannesburg at the 2003 ODI World Cup final.
Sanath Jayasuriya – 28 Centuries
The ex-Sri Lankan all-rounder and one of the game’s all-time greats, Sanath Jayasuriya, has registered 28 ODI centuries in 445 matches. Jayasuriya, whose 21-year and 184-day-long ODI career is the second longest in the game’s history, is also the second oldest man to have scored a hundred in the 50-over game. He was 39 years and 212 days of age when he made a century against India in 2009. The left-handed elegant cricketer concluded his ODI career with a batting average of 32.36 and took 323 wickets.

Hashim Amla – 27 Centuries
Former South African batsman Hashim Amla, who compiled 27 centuries in a 2008-2019 ODI career. Amla is also the quickest batsman in history to reach 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000 and 7,000 ODI runs. He has also received the sixth-most Player of the Series award in ODIs. The top-order batsman finished his 181-match ODI career with a record average of nearly 50.
Best Centuries: 150 against England in Southampton in 2012, 153* against West Indies in Johannesburg in 2015, 154 against Sri Lanka in Centurion in 2017.
Ab de Villiers – 25 Centuries
One of the all-time great ODI batsmen, AB de Villiers, is ranked number seven with 25 ODI hundreds to his name. A run scoring machine and a strong fielder, de Villiers represented South Africa in 228 ODIs from 2006 to 2017, compiling 9577 runs at an average of 53.50. Though de Villiers shares the unfortunate record of most ducks in an ODI series (4), he has many incredible records bearing his name. He is the seventh-most ODI sixes struck, besides being the second-quickest to 9000 runs.
Best Centuries: 149 against the West Indies in Johannesburg in 2015, 106* against Australia in Perth in 2008, and 119 against India in Mumbai in 2015.
Chris Gayle – 25 Centuries
One of the world’s most wrecking batsmen, Chris Gayle made 25 centuries, the same number as de Villiers, but in more innings. De Villiers needed 218 innings, Gayle 294. The aggressive Jamaican left-hander finished his 301-game ODI career with an average of 37.83, and hit the second-most sixes in the game (331). He has also scored the second-most sixes in an innings (16). He has also won the fifth-most Player of the Series awards in ODIs (8). Gayle holds the record for most 150+ scores in ODI cricket for the West Indies and is also the quickest to an ODI fifty from his nation.
Best Centuries: 103 against India in Nagpur in 2002, 132* against England in Lord’s in 2004, 133* against South Africa in Jaipur in 2006, 162 against England in Grenada in 2019.
Kumar Sangakkara – 25 Centuries
The ex-Sri Lanka captain also made 25 centuries in ODI cricket, but in 380 innings. Sangakkara is the all-time second-highest ODI run-scorer (14234), after Tendulkar (18426). He is also the record holder of second-most ODI hundreds in a series (4), most hundreds in consecutive ODI matches (4), second-most fifties (118), third most fours in number (1385) and second-fastest to 14,000 runs.
Best Centuries: 219 against India in 2010, 192 against Australia in 2007, 230 vs Pakistan in 2002 and 232 and 287 vs South Africa in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
David Warner – 22 Centuries
Swashbuckling Australia opener David Warner is next on this list of most centuries for a batsman in ODI cricket. He has scored 22 hundreds in just 161 ODI games and retires as one of the greats of the ODI format. Warner scored 6932 runs at an average of 45.30 and has a strike rate of 97.26. He has been part of the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cup winning teams.
Apart from Warner, Sourav Ganguly also has 22 centuries in the format while Rahul Dravid retired with 12 centuries.
Best Centuries: 163 against Sri Lanka in Brisbane in 2012, 178 against Afghanistan in Perth in 2015, (ODI World Cup), 179 against Pakistan in Adelaide in 2017.
