Netherlands defender Daley Blind has drawn curtains on a glorious and illustrious footballing career at Ajax. The 32-year-old defender had joined Ajax’s youth team at the ripe age of 8 and played for the senior team on two different stints.
This comes just days after the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The Dutch defender and Ajax club have mutually agreed upon ending the contract, six months before it was originally supposed to end.
“Over the course of the last few days, we reached an agreement with Daley to terminate his contract. I hope he can find another club to end his successful career with. Together with Daley, we have decided on a match in the ArenA where he can say a proper goodbye to the supporters,” Ajax President Edwin van der Sar said.
Daley Blind played for Ajax’s youth team from 1998-2008 before being elevated to the senior side. He played 102 matches for the senior side from 2008-2014. In 2010, he moved to the Dutch club Groningen and played 17 games for that side.
He then plied his trade for 20-time Premier League winners and English giants Manchester United. Daley Blind represented the Red Devils in 90 matches and netted 4 goals for them.
Then he returned to his boyhood club in 2018 and played 124 games for them. Daley Blind was one of the most important cogs in the defense of Ajax. Blind has also represented the Netherlands national team on 99 occasions.
Daley Blind’s father Danny Blind too was a footballer. The former Netherlands player was also a defender of Ajax and had a supervisory role at Ajax. He will be stepping out of the role after his son has ended his contract over there.
Blind is a free agent now and can be made offers from several clubs. His portfolio is immense and he is a pretty good defender with an exceptional game sense.
