Jasprit Bumrah welcomed into the hat-trick club

Jasprit Bumrah has become a global cricketing force to be reckoned with. He commenced his Test career last January against South Africa, after playing limited overs for a few years. He has made sure to keep moving forward, as seen in his recent hat-trick versus West Indies in Jamaica during the second Test match.

Armed for battle, during the first Test in North Sound in Antigua, he claimed five wickets from the hosts, effectively disrupting their batting. This expertise continued into Sabina Park as well. Bumrah comes third in the Test hat-trick leader board after Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan achieved his hat-trick in the year 2001 against Australia and Irfan had claimed his feat versus Pakistan in 2006.

Jasprit Bumrah shows his class

Bumrah’s delivery dismissed Darren Bravo as it scraped through the outside edge of the bat. He went on to trap Shamarh Brooks as the batsman played his second Test game. Finally, Bumrah dismissed Roston Chase, completing his outstanding hat-trick. The DRS was needed to confirm Chase’s wicket because the umpire had spoken in the negative.

During the second Test day, Bumrah struck six wickets. The batsmen were clearly unprepared for what awaited them ahead; it was the innocent calm before a colossal storm. Bumrah’s bowling spell greatly impressed Ian Bishop, the commentator and former cricketer of West Indies team. He also tweeted his praise for Bumrah’s rare talent, calling it “once-in-a-lifetime”.

Bumrah was welcomed in the cricketing hat-trick club with open arms by veteran bowlers Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan Singh ignited his hat-trick at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and was exceedingly proud of Bumrah’s performance in the seris. He tweeted his support for Bumrah, welcoming him to the club with words of encouragement to keep up the great performance in the future as well.
