The Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) media rights invitation to tender was released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, December 9.
One must pay INR 5,90,000 (INR 5,00,000 + 90,000 GST) if the acquiring entity for WIPL media is an Indian corporation. If the purchasing entity is international, payment for an amount equal to INR 5,00,000 must be made in United States Dollars (USD).
“The Governing Council of the IPL invites bids from reputed entities to acquire the Media Rights for the Women’s Indian Premier League Seasons 2023-2027, through a tender process,” a BCCI statement read.
“The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process including eligibility requirements, process for submissions of bids, proposed media rights packages, and obligations, etc. are contained in the ‘Invitation to Tender’ (“ITT”) which will be made available on receipt of payment of non-refundable fee of INR 5,00,000 (Rupees Five Lakhs Only) plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax. The procedure to procure the ITT documents is enlisted in Annexure A to this document. The ITT will be available for purchase till December 31, 2022,” the statement added.
Purchasing of ITT
The ITT must be purchased in order for any interested party to submit a bid. To submit a bid, a person must, however, meet the ITT’s eligibility requirements and adhere to all of its other terms and conditions. It is made clear that no one has the right to place a bid simply by obtaining this ITT.
“BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner at its discretion,” the statement further said.
Media rights sold through e-auction
The BCCI sold the media rights for the men’s IPL through e-auction, but it will either do the same for the WIPL or go with a sealed one-time offer. The BCCI received a staggering Rs 48,390 crore in June of this year for the media rights to the IPL for five years beginning in 2023.
The most sought-after India digital rights deal was purchased for Rs 20,500 crore by the Reliance-backed Viacom18, which also won the non-exclusive Package C for an additional Rs 2,991 crore. Disney Star kept their Indian subcontinent TV rights for a total of Rs 23,575 crore.
