Gujarat Giants have dealt with a major blow as their West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. She is “recovering from a medical situation” and thus will not be able to ply her trade for Gujarat.
With a base price of Rs. 50 lakhs, Dottin was purchased by Gujarat Giants for a sum of Rs. 60 lakhs and was touted to be one of the key cogs in the wheels of Gujarat Giants in WPL 2023.
“Ace West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin is recovering from medical situation and has been replaced by Australian pace bowler Kim Garth. The Adani Gujarat Giants wish Deandra a speedy recovery, and welcome the talented Kim Garth,” read a statement from Gujarat Giants.
Gujarat Giants name Kim Garth as replacement
The Gujarat franchise were quick on their feet to name the replacement of Deandra Dottin. Gujarat have named Australian all-rounder Kim Garth as the replacement. Garth was initially unsold in the WPL 2023 auctions but now has a chance to prove her mettle and showcase her abilities in the WPL 2023.
She has so far played 54 T20Is for Australia and has mustered 762 runs and has bagged 43 wickets. Undoubtedly, she will be the perfect player to replace Deandra Dottin in the Gujarat side.
During the time of the WPL 2023 auction, Garth was a part of Australia’s squad during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. She didn’t make the cut to the playing XI of Australia in the World Cup games but played 2 warm-up games in the build-up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
