“Every Setback Is An Opportunity To Learn”: Indian Defender Subasish Bose Confident Of Exorcising The Ghosts Of AFC Asian Cup 2019 Campaign

Date:

The Indian football team will be participating in their 5th AFC Asian Cup tournament and would be pretty confident. Even though they are slotted in a group which is extremely tough and have opponents higher in ranking, they would be hoping to outclass and outsmart them.

Sunil Chhetri and co. have been placed in Group B and the other teams in this group are Syria, Australia and Uzbekistan. India cross swords with Australia on 12th January 2024 at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

In a conversation with AIFF, Indian team defender, Subhasish Bose, praised the Indian team fans and spoke about the impact of such amazing support, everywhere around the globe.

“No matter where we go abroad, we always have healthy support from the stands, especially in the Middle East. We were welcomed so warmly at the airport; hundreds of Indians had come to greet us. And now we are hearing that a lot of the Indian fans will be coming to our matches, which will really boost us. You always get an extra chip on your shoulder when you get support from the galleries,” said Subhasish Bose to AIFF.

Subhasish Bose also spoke about the tumultuous campaign of India in the AFC Asian Cup 2018, where they had started off well but the momentum faded away.

“We had started well in 2019 against Thailand but then lost the next two matches, which eventually knocked us out. We fought; we gave it our all right until the bitter end. We were devastated after in 2019, but as they say, for any sportsperson, it’s important to have the memory of a goldfish in such circumstances. Every setback is an opportunity to learn, and those of us here today have experienced that, and are helping the younger lot with that knowledge,” said the defender.

Subhasish Bose has played 34 games for India

An important part of the defensive structure of India, Subhasish Bose has played 34 games for India at the highest level. His sterling defensive skills makes him an integral part of India.

In the Indian Super League (ISL), Bose plies his trade for Mohun Bagan Super Giants and is also their captain. He has played 72 games for this club and has previously played for Mumbai City FC, Bengaluru FC and Sporting Goa. We can expect him to play a crucial role in the defensive department of the Indian football team in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2023.
