The Paris Olympics 2024 are just around the corner, and India is set to field a strong contingent of athletes across various disciplines.
As per the Olympic India schedule, the medal event is scheduled to begin on July 26 and will feature athletes from around the world competing in 32 sports for a total of 329 gold medals.
The Paris Olympics 2024 competitions will start with preliminary rounds in archery, football, handball, and rugby sevens. The swimming events of the Paris Olympics are set for the first week, from July 27 to August 4, while track and field events will take place during the second week, from July 31 to August 11, ending with the marathon, traditionally the final event of the athletics program.
The medal events of the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place across 35 venues in Paris, the Île-de-France region, and various locations throughout France.
India at Paris Olympics 2024: Athlete’s Qualification for Olympics Increases
As the world gears up for the Paris 2024 Olympics, India’s presence is set to be big, with a growing number of athletes qualifying to compete in the prestigious event.
Over recent editions, India has steadily increased its representation at the Summer Games, aiming to surpass its previous achievements.
In Tokyo 2020, India sent its largest contingent ever, with 124 athletes. The nation celebrated a historic medal haul, winning seven gold medals. Building on this success, India hopes to send even more athletes to Paris and increase its medal tally.
Paris Olympics 2024 India: Key Highlights
Trap Shooter Bhowneesh Mendiratta secured India’s inaugural quota slot at the ISSF World Championships, meeting the criteria for the Paris Olympics first.
Race Walkers Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh were the first Indians to earn qualifications for athletics events at the upcoming Paris 2024 Games.
Indian Shooters secured a quota in every Olympic shooting category for the first time, with notable athletes like Manu Bhaker and Rudrankksh Patil making significant contributions.
Notable Athletes include previous gold medalist Neeraj Chopra in the men’s javelin throw, PV Sindhu in badminton, Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting, and Lovlina Borgohain in boxing, all of whom have previously won medals at the Olympics.
