Paris Olympics 2024: Can PV Sindhu Win Her 3rd Medal?

Date:

PV Sindhu is one of the biggest names in the Indian badminton circuit and is the only Indian female athlete to win 2 Olympic medals. The Hyderabad-born shuttler had won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 and had backed it up with a stellar bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, thereby cementing her name in the history books.

As we begin the countdown for the Paris Olympics 2024, a lot will be hinging on PV Sindhu. An entire nation of 1.6 billion people will be glued to their television sets with bated breath as they hope she not only wins another medal and completes a hattrick at the Olympics, but also betters the colour of the medal.

However, leading up to the Olympics, PV Sindhu hasn’t had the most ideal scenario and circumstances. She was injured for quite a bit time post the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 and staged a comeback in this year’s February.

Sindhu had a stress fracture on her left ankle and she did not want to prolong the injury and took the medical treatment that her doctors and physiotherapists had recommended her.

She then reached the finals of the Malaysia Master Super 500 and lost the summit clash at the hands of China’s Wang Zhi Yi. PV Sindhu had a lead of 11-3 in the decider set but couldn’t hold her nerves in Malaysia and she choked under pressure.

2024 hasn’t been the most ideal year for her as he suffered setbacks in the All England Open, Swiss Open, Spain Masters, Badminton Asia Championships, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open.

If performances of 2024 are to be considered, then it will be extremely difficult for PV Sindhu to defend their glory and prestige at the Paris Olympics 2024.

But the beauty of badminton is that there is no favourite on paper. Everything is played on the court and between those 3 sets. With the experience and expertise of PV Sindhu, one can expect her to conjure magic in Paris.

PV Sindhu kickstarts her campaign in Group M, where she is placed alongside Kristin Kuuba and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq from Estonia and Maldives.

She is also going to be the flag-bearer of India in the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 alongside Table Tennis veteran player of India, Sharath Kamal.
