Pakistan succumbed to a shock 10-wicket thrashing at the hands of Bangladesh in the 1st Test of their ongoing 2-match Test series at home. Several cricket pundits lashed out at the team for their poor performances and lambasted the captain, Shan Masood. The latest high-profile name to join the bandwagon is former Pakistani batter Ahmed Shahzad.

Ahmed Shahzad teared apart the Pakistani team and underlined several issues plaguing the side. He did not mince his words and highlighted the sorry state of affairs in the Pakistan Cricket Team.

In a video posted on his X (previously Twitter) account, Ahmed Shahzad looked visibly frustrated and upset and spoke about the issues in the team.

“I had said this before as well, Pakistan team is already heading towards darkness, so you cannot take short-term decisions. The situation is just like hockey. Even so, we never expected that Pakistan will lose to Bangladesh, but they have done that as well. Pakistan’s players are not at fault. The cricket board is responsible,” said Ahmed Shahzad in the video.

“ Main masla ye hai ki aap baat kar bhi sakte nhi hai kyuki aapki to aapni performance kuch nhi hai. Aap ki baat sunega kaun? 2020 se leke abhi tak aapke jab stats nikale to 3 50 samne aaye wo bhi piche Australia k series me aapne kiye hai. Or aap Pakistan team k captain hai. Ye aalmi hai pakistan ka, unfortunately. Bas aap Saro ne milke Jo hai na pagal banaya hai Pakistan ki imam ko. Aapni aapni bariya le rahe hai, aapni aapni baari aapke aagayi hai.”, criticised Shahzad in another video posted on his social media channels.

Ahmed Shahzad also said that this was the lowest point in Pakistani cricket and this is a huge statement, coming from a former cricketer.

“The state of Pakistan cricket is such that today (Sunday) Bangladesh has defeated Pakistan for the first time in Test cricket and that too on their (Pakistan’s) home soil. I have never seen Pakistan cricket sink to such a low in my life. Leave aside batting, bowling and fielding, this is a new low in Pakistan cricket,” said Ahmed Shahzad.

Ahmed Shahzad has played 153 international matches for Pakistan

A stylish and a flamboyant batter during his days, Ahmed Shahzad played 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 59 T20Is for Pakistan. He amassed 982, 2605 and 1471 runs respectively for Pakistan and had an average of 40.6 in the longest format of the game.

Shahzad was part of the title-winning ICC T20 World Cup 2009 squad of Pakistan and played for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He retired from the PSL in December 2013 after none of the 6 franchises secured his services.
