Dwayne Bravo’s recent departure from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) marks a significant transition in his illustrious cricketing career.

After announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, Bravo has taken on a new role as a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of IPL 2025.

Here are three key reasons why CSK and Bravo parted ways:

1. Injury and Retirement

Bravo’s retirement was precipitated by a groin injury sustained during the CPL 2024.

This injury forced him to exit the tournament prematurely, leading to his decision to retire from all cricket.

Having previously retired from international cricket in 2021 and stepping away from IPL playing duties after the 2022 season, Bravo’s physical condition ultimately influenced CSK’s decision to move forward without him as a player or coach.

2. Coaching Transition

With Bravo’s retirement, CSK needed to reassess its coaching staff. He had been serving as the bowling consultant for CSK since the 2023 season after retiring from playing in the IPL.

However, with his departure, CSK is likely looking to bring in fresh perspectives and strategies to their coaching setup as they prepare for future seasons.

The franchise may seek to fill his role with someone who can contribute actively without the constraints of ongoing player commitments.

3. New Opportunities with KKR

Bravo’s move to KKR represents an exciting new chapter in his career. He will not only serve as a mentor for KKR but also oversee operations for other Knight Riders franchises globally.

This broader role allows Bravo to leverage his experience and knowledge of T20 cricket while transitioning fully into a mentorship position, which he expressed enthusiasm about.

His desire for a family-like environment and professionalism at KKR also played a role in this decision, indicating that he found a suitable platform for his next career phase.
