Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran has made headlines following his exclusion from the Indian squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Despite his impressive form in domestic cricket, Easwaran was overlooked, leading him to express both disappointment and determination in response to the snub.

Easwaran recently showcased his capabilities by scoring an unbeaten 127 runs in a Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh, marking his fourth consecutive century in first-class cricket.

This performance comes after a string of impressive innings, including scores of 191 in the Irani Cup and centuries in the Duleep Trophy.

His current average stands at an astonishing 160 over his last eight innings, demonstrating his consistency and readiness for international competition.

    Easwaran’s Response to the Snub

In light of his exclusion from the Test squad, Easwaran expressed disappointment but remained focused on personal growth.

He acknowledged the competitive nature of team selection and emphasized his commitment to improving his game.

“It’s natural to feel a bit let down when you have such a big dream. However, my passion for cricket drives me to keep working hard,” he stated.

Easwaran also pointed out that he had not received any communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his omission or areas for improvement.

“No, I have not had any communication so far,” he confirmed, indicating a desire for constructive feedback that could help him enhance his performance.

    The Selection Debate

The decision to exclude Easwaran has ignited discussions among fans and former cricketers about the selection criteria employed by the BCCI.

Critics argue that consistent domestic performers like Easwaran should be prioritized over players who may have performed well in shorter formats like the IPL.

Former cricketer Abhinav Mukund voiced concerns on social media, questioning why players with strong domestic records are overlooked in favor of those who excel in franchise cricket.

When will Abhimanyu Easwaran get a chance?

Despite being snubbed for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, reports suggest that Easwaran will be part of the India A squad set to tour Australia.

This opportunity allows him to continue showcasing his talent and could pave the way for future selections in the senior team.

With Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to open for India, Easwaran’s recent performances make him a strong candidate as a backup opener.
