Total Prize Pool: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a total prize pool of $7,958,080 for the 2024 edition, which is more than double the amount awarded in 2023.
This substantial increase reflects the ICC’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket and achieving parity in prize money between men’s and women’s tournaments.
Winners’ Earnings: New Zealand’s triumph in the final against South Africa not only brought them the coveted trophy but also a 134% increase in prize money compared to the previous year’s champions, Australia, who received $1 million in 2023.
The runners-up, South Africa, will take home $1.17 million, also a significant rise from last year.
Increased Rewards for All Teams: The prize structure has been revamped to ensure that all participating teams benefit financially.
Each group stage win now earns teams $31,154, while all ten participating teams are guaranteed a base prize of $112,500, totaling $1.125 million for group-stage exiters.
Significance of Equal Prize Money
The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup is historic as it marks the first ICC event where women receive equal prize money to their male counterparts in World Cups.
This decision was made during the ICC Annual Conference in July 2023 and aims to promote gender equality in cricket.
