The Gujarat Titans have officially announced the appointment of former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel as their new Assistant and Batting Coach.
This decision comes as the franchise looks to bolster its coaching staff following a disappointing season where they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since their inception in 2022.
Parthiv Patel’s Background
Parthiv Patel, who had a distinguished 17-year playing career, made his international debut for India at just 17 years old.
He represented India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 2 T20Is, showcasing his skills primarily as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Throughout his IPL journey, Patel played for several franchises, including Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, accumulating a total of 2,848 runs in 139 matches and winning the IPL title three times—twice with Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017.
After retiring from professional cricket in 2020, Parthiv transitioned into coaching and commentary. He previously served as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians, where he honed his ability to identify emerging talent in domestic cricket.
Role and Expectations
As the new Assistant and Batting Coach, Parthiv Patel will work closely with head coach Ashish Nehra and the rest of the coaching staff to enhance the batting techniques and strategies of the Gujarat Titans players.
The franchise expressed confidence that Parthiv’s insights and experience will play a crucial role in developing player skills and improving overall performance.
In an official statement, the Gujarat Titans said, “We are thrilled to announce that former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has joined us as the Assistant and Batting Coach.
His deep game knowledge and experience will elevate our batting unit as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
Coaching Staff Dynamics
Parthiv will join an experienced coaching team that includes Ashish Nehra as head coach, Vikram Solanki as Director of Cricket, and Aashish Kapoor as another assistant coach.
This dynamic coaching duo of Nehra and Patel is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team’s strategies ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
Retentions Ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction
