    Shikhar Dhawan is set to make his mark in the inaugural season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). 

    After announcing his retirement from international cricket in August 2024, Dhawan has continued to showcase his passion for the game by participating in various leagues. 

    He will represent the Karnali Yaks in this exciting new tournament, which promises to bring together some of the best talents in cricket.

    Dhawan’s New Journey in Nepal

    Shikhar Dhawan decision to join the NPL reflects his ongoing commitment to playing cricket at a competitive level. 

    The left-handed opener has been a prominent figure in T20 cricket, currently standing as the 18th-highest run-scorer in the format. 

    He is just 203 runs shy of reaching the significant milestone of 10,000 T20 runs.

    His experience and skill will undoubtedly add significant value to the Karnali Yaks as they compete against seven other teams in the league.

    Nepal Premier League Overview

    The Nepal Premier League will kick off on November 30, 2024, and run until December 21, 2024, featuring a total of 32 matches. 

    The tournament will adopt a format similar to that of the Indian Premier League (IPL), including playoffs with one eliminator and two qualifiers leading up to the final. 

    The matches will be held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, which has a capacity of over 15,000 spectators.

    The league will feature teams such as Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Janakpur Bolts, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Pokhara Avengers, and Sudurpaschim Royals alongside Karnali Yaks. 

    Notable international players like James Neesham, Martin Guptill, and Ben Cutting are also expected to participate, adding further excitement to the tournament.

    Dhawan’s Impact on Karnali Yaks

    Dhawan’s presence in the Karnali Yaks squad is expected to elevate their chances of success in this inaugural season. 

    His extensive experience in high-pressure situations and ability to mentor younger players will be crucial for the team’s development. In a promotional video for NPL, 

    Dhawan expressed his enthusiasm for playing in Nepal and connecting with local fans, stating, “Namaste Nepal! I am coming to play in the Nepal Premier League for Karnali Yaks. I look forward to meeting everyone and experiencing new cricketing adventures.”
