The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction has gotten off to a flyer at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with a lot of teams splurging big amounts on players. KL Rahul, who was touted to be one of the highest-paid cricketers in the IPL, went for Rs. 14 crores to Delhi Capitals (DC).
Former England and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan dropped a big statement on KL Rahul and his amount in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
Morgan lauded Delhi Capitals and highlighted the fact that they did not panic during the heated moments in the auction and instead of getting their former skipper Rishabh Pant back for a hefty amount, they went for a reasonable option in the form of KL Rahul for Rs. 14 crores, which was nothing short of a steal-deal.
“You know, they had their right to match card out for Rishabh Pant, realised that 27 crores was too much, but almost backed into a corner and go toe to toe with RCB for KL Rahul, who is not a 14 crore player,” said Eoin Morgan in a show of JioCienema, the official live streaming partner of the IPL.
“I’m not quite sure about RCB, the elephan in the room. It’s great business by DC, you know, they’ve capitalised on what a moment can mean in the heat of the moment, and they’ve stood up. They’ve recognised great value, and they’ve come to the table,” he added.
Eoin Morgan also feels that Delhi will appoint KL Rahul as the captain of the franchise. The cricketer from Mangalore has previously captained Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
“I totally agree with Robbie. He should have gone for 20, 21 and 22 for what he brings to the table. He’s without doubt going to be captain as well. I have no doubt about that, and it leaves them a great pot of money to invest. You would say in that bowling line to support Mitchell Starc,” said Morgan, who led KKR to the IPL 2021 final.
Delhi Capitals also acquired the services of Australian fiery seamer, Mitchell Starc, for a huge amount of Rs. 11.75 crores. In the previous edition, Mitchell Starc helped KKR win the title and also bagged the player of the match award in the high-octane finals at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
