IPL 2025 Auction: 3 Key Reasons Why RCB Let Go of Mohammed Siraj

The decision by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to not retain Mohammed Siraj during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions among fans.

Despite Siraj’s strong performances in previous seasons, RCB opted not to use their Right To Match (RTM) card when he was sold to the Gujarat Titans for Rs 12.25 crore. Here are three key reasons behind RCB’s decision:

1. Strategic Rebuilding

RCB appears to be in a phase of strategic rebuilding, focusing on a new direction for their squad.

By releasing Siraj, who had been a significant part of their bowling attack, the franchise may be looking to create space for new talent that aligns better with their long-term vision.

This strategy could involve targeting players who fit a specific team dynamic or style of play that RCB aims to implement in the upcoming season.

2. Financial Considerations

With a substantial auction purse of Rs 83 crore, RCB had the financial capacity to retain Siraj; however, they chose to allocate their funds differently.

The franchise’s management might have assessed that investing heavily in Siraj, especially given his fluctuating form in recent seasons, was not the best use of their budget.

Instead, they may prioritize acquiring multiple players who can collectively strengthen the squad rather than committing a significant portion of their budget to a single player.

3. Focus on Other Key Players

RCB’s auction strategy has indicated a desire to pursue other marquee players who could fill critical roles within the team.

By not retaining Siraj, RCB might be positioning themselves to bid aggressively for high-profile players like Faf du Plesiss or other impactful bowlers who can enhance their lineup.

The franchise’s decision reflects a broader strategy of targeting players who can contribute not just on the field but also in leadership roles as they seek a new captain following Faf du Plessis’ departure.
