Jacobs made his List A debut for Canterbury on November 25, 2023, against Wellington in the Ford Trophy. He quickly gained attention for his aggressive batting style and impressive performances. 

His T20 debut came shortly after on December 19, 2023, when he scored 42 runs off just 20 balls against Auckland in the Super Smash.

During the Super Smash season, Jacobs emerged as one of the standout players, accumulating 134 runs in six innings at an exceptional strike rate of 188.73, making him one of the tournament’s most exciting talents.

While many established players went unsold, Mumbai Indians raised their paddle for Jacobs at INR 30 lakh. 

The news came as a surprise to Jacobs, who was asleep in New Zealand at the time. He learned about his selection from a cousin who was following the auction live from South Africa.
