The Uttar Pradesh U-23 cricket team has set a new benchmark in Indian domestic cricket by successfully chasing down a monumental target of 407 runs against Vidarbha in the U-23 State A Trophy one-day match.

This remarkable feat took place at the GSFC Cricket Ground in Vadodara, marking the highest successful run-chase in any Indian domestic one-day game.

    Match Highlights

The Uttar Pradesh team not only reached this formidable target but did so with impressive ease, achieving victory by eight wickets and completing the chase in just 41.2 overs.

The standout performer of the match was Sameer Rizvi, who played a sensational innings, scoring an unbeaten 202 runs off 105 balls. His innings included an astonishing 10 boundaries and 18 sixes, showcasing his explosive batting ability.

Rizvi’s performance was pivotal in leading his team to victory, and this double century marks his second consecutive double hundred in the tournament, further solidifying his status as a rising star in Indian cricket.

This achievement follows his earlier score of 201 against Tripura, highlighting his exceptional form throughout the tournament.

    Support from Teammates

Rizvi received valuable support from his teammates, particularly from openers Shaurya Singh and Swastik, who laid a solid foundation with a brisk partnership of 106 runs in just 10.4 overs.

Additionally, wicketkeeper-batter Shoaib Siddiqui played a crucial role by contributing an unbeaten 96 runs off 73 balls, forming an impressive partnership of 296 runs with Rizvi to secure the win.

    Historical Context

This record-breaking chase surpasses the previous highest successful run-chase in Indian domestic cricket, which was set by Andhra Pradesh when they chased down 384 runs against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Furthermore, it eclipses the women’s record of 390 runs, achieved by Bengal’s women’s team against Haryana earlier this month.

    Rizvi’s Journey

Sameer Rizvi’s journey has been remarkable, especially considering he faced challenges earlier in the season where he struggled to make an impact in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Despite being dropped from Uttar Pradesh’s senior Vijay Hazare Trophy side after scoring only 136 runs in eight matches, his recent performances have demonstrated his potential and talent at the U-23 level.

Having been picked for an impressive INR 8.4 crore by Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2024 auction, Rizvi is now looking to translate his domestic success into opportunities at the professional level.

After being acquired by Delhi Capitals for INR 95 lakhs this year, he aims to make a significant impact in the upcoming IPL season.
