In a surprising turn of events, Axar Patel is set to be appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL 2025 season, according to recent reports.

This change comes after the team decided to part ways with their former captain, Rishabh Pant, who was a key player for them. Axar has been with the Delhi Capitals since 2019 and has shown good leadership skills by leading the team in a few matches before.

The management’s choice to make Axar captain instead of other big names, including KL Rahul, who was signed for ₹14 crore during the mega auction, shows their trust in him.

While Rahul is expected to play as a batsman this season, the focus will be on Axar’s leadership on the field.

Axar has performed well in recent IPL seasons, scoring over 200 runs and taking more than 10 wickets in both of the last two tournaments.

His skills as an all-rounder make him an important part of the team. Recently, Axar was also named vice-captain of the Indian T20I team and played a big role in helping India win the T20 World Cup last year, which adds to his experience as a leader.

Parth Jindal, co-owner of Delhi Capitals, mentioned that while nothing is officially confirmed yet, Axar’s long history with the team and his experience make him a strong candidate for captaincy.

The management hopes to build a strong team under Axar’s guidance after finishing sixth in the last season.

As IPL 2025 approaches, starting on March 23, 2025, fans are excited to see how Axar Patel will lead his team in their quest for their first IPL title.

With new energy and determination, the Delhi Capitals are looking forward to making a strong impact in the upcoming season under Axar’s captaincy.

His experience, recent performances, and leadership potential could be just what the team needs to improve and succeed in one of cricket’s most competitive leagues.
