The 9th Asian Winter Games are set to commence in Harbin, China, on February 7, 2025, and will run until February 14. This marks the return of the games to Harbin after nearly three decades, with the city previously hosting the event in 1996.

A record 34 countries and regions will participate, with 1,275 athletes (775 men, 520 women) competing. Bhutan, Cambodia, and Saudi Arabia will make their debut, while Afghanistan and Bahrain rejoin after missing the 2017 games.

There will be 64 events across 11 disciplines within six sports: biathlon, curling, ice hockey, skating, skiing, and ski mountaineering. 

Ski mountaineering is new to the program, replacing ski jumping. Seven venues in Harbin will host the various competitions.

The opening ceremony will be held on February 7 at the Harbin International Convention Exhibition and Sports Centre, which will also host the closing ceremony on February 14. 

Ice hockey began on February 3, ahead of the opening ceremony, with curling following on February 4.
