Harry Brook Risks Two-Year Ban After Pulling Out of IPL 2025: “I’ve Made a Very Difficult Decision”

England batter Harry Brook has announced his withdrawal from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, just 12 days before the tournament’s start.

This decision not only leaves his team, Delhi Capitals, scrambling for a replacement but also puts Brook at risk of facing a two-year ban from the league.

The move is a result of Brook’s commitment to prioritize his international duties with England, citing the need to recharge and focus on upcoming series.

Harry Brook in IPL 2025:

Brook was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

However, he has chosen to sit out the tournament, marking the second consecutive year he has withdrawn from the IPL.

In 2024, Brook pulled out due to personal reasons following a family bereavement.

Reason for Withdrawal:

In a statement, Brook expressed his regret to Delhi Capitals and its fans, stating that representing England remains his priority.

“I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologize unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters,” he wrote on social media.

Brook emphasized that it is a crucial time for England cricket, and he needs time to recharge after the busiest period in his career to date.

Potential Ban:

The IPL introduced a new rule ahead of the 2025 season to address the issue of players withdrawing after being picked at the auction.

According to this rule, any overseas player who registers for the auction and then makes themselves unavailable before the start of the season will face a two-year ban from participating in the IPL, unless the withdrawal is due to an injury or medical condition confirmed by their home board.

Impact on Delhi Capitals:

Brook’s withdrawal leaves a significant gap in Delhi Capitals’ lineup, as they had expected him to play a key role in their campaign.

The team has yet to announce a replacement for Brook or confirm their captain for the upcoming season.

Delhi Capitals will face Lucknow Super Giants in their first match on March 24, and finding a suitable replacement will be crucial for their success in the tournament.
