Ishan Kishan smashed a blistering 64 runs off just 24 balls in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s intra-squad match ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

This impressive performance not only showcased Kishan’s form but also posed a challenge to SRH’s established opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.

Background

Ishan Kishan, who was released by Mumbai Indians after seven years, was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping INR 11.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

His inclusion in the SRH squad has added significant firepower to their batting lineup. Kishan has been out of favor with the Indian team since November 2023 and is looking to make a strong comeback through his performances in the IPL.

Intra-Squad Match Performance

In the intra-squad match, Kishan opened the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, and the duo got off to a flying start.

They scored 46 runs in just 2.2 overs during the powerplay, setting the tone for a high-scoring game.

Abhishek Sharma was the first to fall, scoring a quick 28 off 8 balls, but Kishan continued his onslaught, eventually being dismissed by Kamindu Mendis in the 8th over after reaching his half-century.

Additional Highlights

Kishan’s impressive form was not limited to a single innings. In the same intra-squad simulation, he also scored a rapid 73 runs off 30 balls in the second innings, further solidifying his position as a key player for SRH.

His ability to score quickly and consistently will be crucial in bolstering SRH’s middle order, where he is likely to bat at number three, following the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.

Impact on SRH

Ishan Kishan’s inclusion and form have significantly enhanced SRH’s batting depth.

With Head and Abhishek Sharma opening, followed by Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, SRH boasts one of the most formidable batting lineups in the IPL.

Kishan’s aggressive batting style aligns perfectly with SRH’s attacking approach, which was evident in their record-breaking performances last season5.

Road to Redemption

Kishan’s impressive display in the intra-squad match is not just about his current form but also a message to the BCCI selectors.

Having been dropped from the Indian team and the central contract list, Kishan is determined to make a comeback through his IPL performances.

His ability to score big and quickly will be crucial in catching the selectors’ attention once again.
