Glenn Maxwell's record for most ducks

In a surprising turn of events during the IPL 2025 match on March 25, Glenn Maxwell set an unwanted record by becoming the player with the most ducks in IPL history.

Playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Maxwell was dismissed for a golden duck on his first ball.

This brings his total to 19 ducks in the tournament, surpassing previous record holders Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik.

Match Overview

Maxwell’s unfortunate dismissal occurred in the 11th over of the innings when he attempted a reverse sweep off left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore.

The ball struck his pads, and despite a brief discussion with captain Shreyas Iyer regarding a potential review, Maxwell opted not to challenge the umpire’s decision.

Replays later showed that the ball would have missed the stumps, leaving both Maxwell and his team stunned by the outcome.

Despite losing two wickets in quick succession, Punjab Kings managed to post a formidable total of 243 runs.

Shreyas Iyer played a pivotal role, finishing unbeaten on 97 runs off just 42 balls, while Shashank Singh contributed significantly with a quickfire 44 runs off 16 balls.

PBKS ultimately secured an 11-run victory over GT, showcasing their batting depth despite Maxwell’s early exit.

Record-Breaking Dismissal

Maxwell’s golden duck not only marked his 19th dismissal without scoring in IPL history but also highlighted his struggles in recent seasons.

He had previously shared the record with Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik, both of whom have 18 ducks.

This latest dismissal adds to Maxwell’s tally of 35 ducks across his T20 career, placing him fourth on the all-time list for most ducks in T20 cricket.

The significance of this record is compounded by Maxwell’s inconsistent performances in recent IPL seasons.

In 2024, he had a disappointing run with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scoring only 52 runs in 10 matches, which led to his release from the franchise and subsequent return to PBKS for the 2025 season.
