Last IPL Season

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is going strong, with 10 teams playing 74 matches from March 22 to May 25. Fans are enjoying exciting games, but this season could also be the last for some of cricket’s biggest names.

Let’s take a look at three senior players—Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Ravichandran Ashwin—who might be playing in the IPL for the final time.

Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)

Rohit Sharma, who turns 38 in April 2025, has been a key player and former captain for Mumbai Indians. He had a slow start this season but recently scored a strong 76 runs off 45 balls against Chennai Super Kings, helping Mumbai win easily.

This was his first half-century in seven matches this season. Overall, in IPL 2025, Rohit has scored 228 runs in 8 matches, with an average of 28.50 and a strike rate of 134.50.

Even though that innings showed he still has the skills, many fans and cricket experts feel that his reactions and timing are not as sharp as before. This could be a sign that his playing days in the IPL might be coming to an end.

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings)

At 43, MS Dhoni is still leading Chennai Super Kings with calmness and clever tactics. While his batting isn’t as strong as it once was, he remains a very smart captain and a leader everyone looks up to.

In IPL 2025, he has scored 130 runs in 8 matches, with an average of 21.66 and a strike rate of 150.57. Notably, he played a match-winning unbeaten 26 off 11 balls against Lucknow Super Giants.

Unlike Rohit, some believe Dhoni might still continue to play for another season. But since he’s been managing injuries and is getting older, fans are starting to wonder if this could be his final IPL too.

Ravichandran Ashwin (Chennai Super Kings)

Ravichandran Ashwin is a smart spin bowler who has played for many IPL teams. Now back with CSK after playing for Rajasthan Royals, Ashwin is still doing well, but his age and the tough demands of cricket are starting to show.

In the current season, he has played 7 matches, taking 5 wickets with an economy rate of 7.50. His best bowling figures this season are 2/25.

Ashwin recently retired from Test cricket, and there’s a chance he could say goodbye to the IPL after this season as well. Many expect him to become a coach or mentor, helping young bowlers in the future.
