Chennai Super Kings (CSK) become the 1st team to be knocked out from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 5-time IPL champions have had a horrendous campaign and are now officially knocked out of this prestigious tournament.
MS Dhoni and co. have lost the plot in most of the games – with their batting being their biggest Achilles Heel. CSK haven’t been able to post formidable totals or chase down big totals and this has been a major cause for concern for The Yellow Army.
On 30th April 2025, Chennai Super Kings lost to Punjab Kings by 4 wickets and that was the end of the sorry state of affairs for the 5-time IPL champions. Batting first, they posted 190 runs on the board and were all-out. Yuzvendra Chahal weaved magic with the white-cherry and bagged a hat-trick to apply brakes on the momentum of Punjab Kings.
In response, Punjab Kings belted the CSK bowlers and easily tracked down the total – without breaking much sweat. Punjab chased down the total with 2 balls remaining. Skipper Shreyas Iyer top-scored with a crucial knock of 72 runs in 41 deliveries and his knock was packed with 5 fours and 4 sixes and he had a terrific strike-rate of 175.61.
Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh contributed and scored 23 and 54 runs respectively, to set up the stage beautifully at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
CSK fail to qualify for finals in 2 consecutive seasons for the first time
In a new low for the Men in Yellow, they failed to qualify for the finals in 2 consecutive seasons for the first-ever time. Chennai Super Kings would be hoping to bounce back strongly in the next season.
Whether MS Dhoni will comeback to the play from the next season or not, is the million-dollar question. The talismanic skipper of CSK and former skipper of India is 43 years old and is in the twilight of his cricketing career.
CSK next lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL’s very own El Classico at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on 3rd May 2025.
