WI vs AUS 2nd Test Preview

West Indies were battered by Australia in the 1st Test match of this ongoing 3-match Test series by a humongous margin of 159 runs. Australia dominated from the word go and set up a special victory against Roston Chase and co.

Batting first, Australia were skittled out for a paltry score of 180 runs. This sparked positivity in the dressing room of West Indies and they were expected to capitalise on the moment against the runners-up of the World Test Championship (WTC).

Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph hogged the limelight as they bagged 5 and 4 wickets respectively. They set the foundation for West Indies and it was a golden opportunity for them to stage a famous victory against Australia.

But the Australian bowlers dominated in the 2nd innings and bowled West Indies out for 190 runs. Roston Chase’s side had a slender lead of 10 runs and it needed something special from the bowlers.

Australia batted well in the 3rd innings and scored 310 runs. Travis Head, Beau Webster and Alex Carey scored 61, 63 and 65 runs respectively and helped the Ozzies post a substantial total on the board.

West Indies needed 301 runs to win in the 4th innings but they couldn’t chase down this intimidating total at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Josh Hazlewood took a fifer in the 4th innings

Australia’s star pacer, Josh Hazlewood, breathed fire with the red-cherry and took 5 wickets to help Australia win the game. His scalps included John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Brandon King, Roston Chase and Jomel Warrican.

West Indies couldn’t forge partnerships and this was one of the main reasons why they failed to chase it down. Shamar Joseph made sure that West Indies’ tail keeps wagging and frustrating the Ozzie bowlers.

But eventually, it was Australia who had the last laugh in the game and they continued their unbeaten streak against West Indies in the longest format of the game.
