In a news that has shocked the entire world, star Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, has passed away in a car crash in Northern Spain along with his brother, Andre Silva. The entire footballing community mourns the tragic demise of this footballer, who had left an indelible impact on world football.
As per the Spanish fire services, the accident occurred on the A-52 motorway and high speed alongside tire issues, were the plausible reasons behind this horrific crash. The Lamborghini in which the duo were travelling, swerved off the highway and blew into flames.
The impact of the crash was too much and both Diogo and Andre instantly passed away in the flames. It happened in the municipality of Cernadilla in Spain, which is in the province of Zamora.
Notably, Jota had married his girlfriend Rute Cardoso, a couple of weeks ago. The duo have three children.
His brother, Andre Silva, was also a professional footballer and plied his trade for Penafiel, a Portuguese second division side.
Diogo Jota had played 123 matches for Liverpool
Having joined Liverpool way back in 2020, the Portuguese striker played 123 matches and netted 47 goals. He previously plied his trade for the Wolves, Atletico Madrid and Porto.
Jota has played 49 matches for Portugal at the international level and has scored 14 goals. He was a force to reckon with and would send shivers down the spines of the opposition defenders.
Diogo Jota was most-recently part of the title-winning side of Liverpool in the Premier League 2024-25. It was his 4th title with the side and unfortunately, was his last one.
The 28-year-old striker was an extremely versatile footballer. He could play in the false 9 position, center-forward position and as a winger.
The entire world has pummeled into a state of deep shock and this will take a while to sink in.
