England needed just 35 runs to win on Day 5 and India needed 4 wickets to win. And it was Shubman Gill and co. who did the unthinkable. On the back of Mohammed Siraj’s fifer, India defeated England by 6 runs at The Oval.
This was India’s narrowest Test victory in terms of runs and will be written in cricketing folklore. No one gave India a chance after the 195-run partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook on Day 4 and it felt like India were well behind.
But Gill and his young Indian brigade didn’t throw in the towel and played exceedingly well to retain the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.

Shubman Gill’s blazing blade brought about a rampage as he scored 754 runs in the series, which included 4 centuries. He shattered several records and topped the charts of Indian captains scoring the maximum number of runs in a Test series.
Gill batted with consummate ease and it was extremely difficult for the English bowlers to get him out.
Mohammed Siraj bags 23 wickets in ENG vs IND 2025 Test Series
Mohammed Siraj embodied the never-say-die attitude and helped India wreak havoc at The Oval. He bagged 23 wickets and averaged 32.43 in the series. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah in a couple of Tests, Siraj took up ownership and delivered the goods with power and precision.
It was only fitting that he took the final wicket of Gus Atkinson and clean-bowled him to rewrite the history books.
