Harshal Patel has revealed the mistake he was doing until 2018 while playing in the Indian Premier League. Now, he has lean’s a lot and is consistently working on adding more variations in his bowling. The Haryana-born pacer finished with 17 wickets for RCB before BCCI suspended the tournament for an indefinite period.
Harshal Patel has played for different teams like Delhi Capitals in the past. He played for RCB in his debut season. But, he was released by the franchise into the auction pool. Delhi picked him but the bowler never got a longer rope to prove his caliber. Ahead of IPL 2021, he was traded from DC to RCB once again and the rest is history.
Harshal Patel Reveals IPL 2018 Auction Fall-Out Was Reality Check
In a telephonic interview, Harshal Patel clearly said that the franchises were not ready to pay for what he had as a bowler in his bowling. As per him, when he was not picked by DC in IPL 2018 auction was a reality check. Patel realized that he needs to win games for the franchise in order to get a consistent run in the IPL.
“It is all individual work, right? It is your journey, people will come and lend you a hand or give you a few words of confidence but at the end of the day, you have to put in the work, be willing to fail spectacularly. If you are brave enough to do that, then only you will get exceptional success. That is what I realized after the last season.
“In 2018 also, not getting a bid other than Delhi was a kick in the stomach. I realized whatever I was offering the market wasn’t interested. I needed to put myself in a position to win games for the team, which I was doing consistently at the domestic level. I just needed to have that change in mindset. That is what has happened probably in the last year-and-a-half,” said Patel.
